ZBot sabotage schedule

A massive spam campaign impersonating a message sent from the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), asking recipients to register to receive the H1N1 vaccine once caused a headache for the security community. The aforementioned spam leads the user to a website that looks very trustworthy. Here, victims are asked to create a personal profile in order to receive the vaccine. Users have also been urged to download the vaccine database from a link available in the mail.

However, when clicking on the link, what really "gets in" and reinstalls is a new variant of the trojan called Zbot. Named by security firms as Zeus, the most powerful god of ancient Greek mythology, this malware specializes in attacking Windows computers to serve dark intentions, such as distributing spam. , denial of service attack.

When impersonated messages began to arrive in mailboxes, many security firms reported that their filters had to encounter a huge stream of spam, averaging 18,000 CDC spam messages per minute, which is about 1 ,1 million messages per hour. The CDC fake site also has a backup attack plan, in case the recipient is careful enough not to click on the link. On the site is the presence of IFRAME, a very small, invisible element containing malicious code, specializing in drilling deep into the vulnerabilities of Adobe Software and Flash.

Trojan Zbot is particularly active in finding downed computers and establishing botnets. Two Britons have been arrested by the police and accused of using Zbot to steal the names of many people's account holders and online banking passwords. More dangerous, hackers can edit this trojan into a toolkit for sale on the black market.
